Chapter Twenty-three

Lamar

Timothy stayed in New York to do some weekend album promoting, and of course, some partying. I was so anxious to talk to him now that it was Monday, and he was back. I opened the door to my house, the place I worked so hard to build, but no longer lived there. Timothy was in here somewhere.

“Timothy!” I yelled out. He didn’t answer me. This big ass house was like a damn maze. I called him over the intercom, but he still didn’t answer because it was only in certain rooms. I went upstairs to his room. He’s probably playing sleep in my bed. I opened my bedroom door. “Oh shit, Tim! My bad.” He had a girl on all fours bangin’ her doggy style. That’s my boy.

“Lamar. Damn, why didn’t you knock?”

“Why aren’t you in your own damn room?” I yelled from the other side of the door. “I’ll be downstairs. Hurry up and come down there, I need to holler at you about something.”

Fifteen minutes later he came downstairs with a gorgeous, but kinda young looking girl. She kissed him on the cheek before walking out the front door. “How old is she?” I asked him.

“Like eighteen or nineteen. Something like that.”

“Like? Listen, I told you. Two rules that can never be broken, son: condoms are a must, and always check their age. No exceptions. No mistakes.”

“I know. I know. So what’s up? I got an appointment with my vocal coach in an hour.”

“You’ve been avoiding me ever since you got back from seeing Keema. How was the visit? Tell me everything. Is she okay?”

“She’s fine, Pops.” This lil nigga sounds like he’s trying to rush me.

“Fine, how? What did y’all talk about?”

“Nothing really, just me and my music. Stuff like that.”

“Let me tell you something, boy! Don’t lie to me about my wife. I know you didn’t just talk about your music. Now stop playing with me. What’s up?”

“It’s private. Between me and my stepmother.”

“Yo, you gone make me knock your skinny-jean-wearing ass unconscious.”

“A’ight look. I promised her I wouldn’t tell you, so don’t say nothing, Dad. And I mean, don’t say a word.”

“I won’t. Now say what you gotta say.”

“She knows!”

“She knows what?” I asked as my heart sped up.

“About Tiff. She knows she’s pregnant!”

“What!”

“I know it’s messed up.” I jumped to my feet, pacing the floor.

“Did she say how she found out? Who the fuck told her!”

“Tiffany’s crazy ass told her. But wait, Dad. It gets worse.”

What the fuck could be worse than Tiff telling Keema she’s pregnant? “What you mean?”

“Supposedly the other day Keema called your phone and Tiff answered. Tiff told Keema that you didn’t want to talk to her. Keema believed her because she was wondering why Tiff would even be answering your phone. She real upset about it.”

“Well, you told her it was a lie, right? That ol’ girl is not pregnant.”

“I couldn’t lie to her, Pops. She has a picture. Tiff sent her a picture of herself.”

Steam had burst from the top of my head.
